Do What I Say, Not What I do | Making Direct Response Marketing ...

Yes, I?ll admit it, I?m a hypocrite and I am not proud of it. There, I said it. I am bad at walking the walk. I talk a lot about how we should set aside time each week from working in our business to work on our business. But I am one of those who do not do that.

?While planning out the next year, I tell myself and even mark out time on my calendar to work on the business. Then the real world enters.

A client or even a prospect calls and either needs something done, wants to meet or I need to take their job to the post office to get it out quickly and I cave and give up my work-on-the-business time. I have no backbone.

?Let me back up a bit and explain the difference between working in your business and on your business. Working in your business is doing the daily things that keep your business running, such as answering the phone, taking out the trash, doing the paperwork, all the things you do to keep your business running. But working on your business is spending time to plan out and market your business to get it where you want to take it. Marketing your business means it will be there so that you can always do the daily things.

?I usually work on my business the day before my Mastermind group meeting so I have something to show or at the end of a business day when I can think clearly or better yet, at night while trying to relax. A lot of times I tell myself I?ll do it during the weekend, and again while I?m doing client work or stuff I need to do around the house.

?What I really need to do is set aside 1 to 2 hours (not all at one time) per week during business hours to work on the business. This is time I should not take any phone calls, answer emails or work on clients? projects.

?What about you? Are you in the same boat as me? If so what are you going to do about it?
