Major Cities & Countries

Blackened Coast

Something is eating up the land from the inside out and the outside in. The shores are turning black with dead, rotting bodies. The realm's core is growing hotter. A summons has been sent to adventurers to discover the source and stop the corruption.

Major Cities

The following descriptions may expand as the story is written, as I prefer to let the areas be defined in the play itself. They are meant to be a starting foundation. There are several smaller towns and villages that are not typically set on a map, but are known by word of mouth.

Haverth and Ranversi
Haverth is nestled along the western side of the area called Demon?s Crown with Ranversi on the eastern side. Both cities are protected by a tall mountain ridge to the north and between the two, and a thick forest to the south. With the increasing heat, there are now portions of the cities that have been evacuated and abandoned. The walls closest to the mountain are beginning to show the brunt of the constant and unrelenting heat.

Haverth and Ranversi are the two largest cities. Both are surrounded by forest and the hard mountain ridge that prevents an easy travel between the two. A tunnel connecting the two was previously carved out of the mountain range, but the heat has turned the passageway into a boiling pot. The tunnel was closed off at either end several years ago.

Suriel
Along the eastern side, Suriel sits on the edge between a heavily forested area and the beginning of the sandy wastelands. It is the only main city near a coastline. They are inland enough to not face the blackened beaches. Suriel still has a healthy supply of oceanic creatures in their inlet, though it is starting to decline sharply. Currently, it is the main staple and often exported to nearby villages in trade.

Scathel
Near the heart of the sandy wasteland known as the Gnasher Abyss, Scathel is feeling the effects of the warming. The sand is hotter, making travel anywhere in the abyss difficult. The road leading to Suriel and Nyanth is nearly impossible to travel along, and not many choose to take the longer route. Trade caravans refuse to make the long distance, hurting the commerce in a city already pained by the heat rippling through the abyss. In the center of the area, the ground has turned a deep red with the sand and rock almost fused together.

Nyanth
Nyanth is the northernmost city, deep in the area known as the Bitter Tongue. They are heavily fortified, not against attacks, but against the harsh weather. Travel along the road southward is only possible in the summer. Any other season carries with it great risk of avalanches and severe storms that have been known to freeze travelers in a matter of minutes. Even with magical means, adventures do not find the risk worth the effort. This makes Nyanth a strongly self-sufficient city within a network of smaller villages in the area. Without this cooperation between them, they would all perish.

Countries

The following are brief summaries of the currently defined areas of the Blackened Coast. Their descriptions may expand or change as the story plays out.

Ragged Jaw
The shores that make up the ragged jaw have borne the brunt of the realm?s affliction. Black, bloated and rotting corpses of various oceanic creatures line the coast, making it completely inhospitable. Even predatory species stay away from the death and decay. Corruption bleeds into the land, slowly spreading inward, devastating everything in its path.

Demon?s Crown
This area is named for the way the vast mountain ridge seems to form the crown and horns of a demon. The mountains boast a number of natural caverns as well as tunnels manually created to mine valuable ore. It previously bore the title of the major source of metal used for armor and weapons in the land. Trade is the main source of profit, however this has taken a bit of a backward step due to the rising heat from underground. The mountains have begun to take on a darker reddish hue and snow is rarely seen in the area. Numerous caverns and tunnels have been purposefully collapsed in an attempt to stave off the progress of the spreading heat.

Gasher Abyss
Gnasher Abyss is the sandy, rocky wasteland and takes up almost half of the realm. It is an unforgiving land, where one must be strong and resourceful to survive, much less thrive. The number of villages and towns in the area are considerably less than in the forested area. Even the Bitter Tongue boasts more villages than the abyss.

Bitter Tongue
Deep in the northern part of the realm, the Bitter Tongue is a cold, harsh land. The shores here are still pristine as the corpses are not able to break the ice of the frozen coast. They are still feeling some pangs from the changes in the realm, as the native wildlife can sense the corruption trying to crack the ice. Hunting has proven to be difficult and the people are struggling to find another means of support. There is talk of creating tunnels along the edge to circumvent the seasonal difficulties of traveling southward.
