Christmas

It's December 24th, Christmas Eve and as they have done every year in the past, The Essex Family is reuniting to spend the holiday together. However, this Christmas isn't like every other one. Their exquisite oceanfront home in Rockport, Massachusetts is still elegantly decorated to the T, the familiar mouthwatering smell of cooking food fills the home and like usual, mountains of presents are hidden away for the next morning. This year however, Rose Essex, was not the one dictating orders to the lighting crew that came to decorate the exterior of their home. She didn't go over the lists of food that their personal chef, Marc, would prepare for their dinner and she hadn't spent weeks and weeks doing what she did best, shopping. In fact, Rose wouldn't fulfill her role in any of those traditions again. She was no longer alive, dying exactly four months before this Christmas from quickly spreading, highly malignant cancer.

After Rose's funeral in August, her oldest daughter, age twenty-six, returned to New York where she lives with her boyfriend of four years and works as a journalist for Vogue. Her second child and first son, age twenty-four, returned to Chicago with his girlfriend, where he works as the Cheif Operating Officer at one of the branches of his father's law firm, John Essex Law Firm. Her youngest son, age twenty-one, left to begin his junior year at Harvard Law School and her youngest child, age eight, continued her life at home. However, she did not go "motherless" for long. Only weeks after Rose was buried, her husband John had invited the twenty-six-year-old secretary that worked for him to move in and the two are now engaged, although none of John's children know of it yet.

As if the first Christmas without their mother was not enough of a change for the Essex children, they will soon learn of their father's engagement to a woman the same age as the oldest Essex child, and on top of that, only a week before Christmas, the third Essex child announced that he was going to bring his girlfriend of two years to the holiday. While the two oldest Essex children were also bringing their other halves, no one had ever heard of this girl before and when learning that she had secretly dated their brother for two years, first impressions are formed even before meeting her. If all of this isn't bad enough, just like his father, the third child is also planning on announcing that his girlfriend had accepted his marriage proposal only a few days before and is now his fiancee.

Simply put, this Christmas will be... different.

-I would like this to be a literate roleplay, so proper grammar and spelling will be required. Detail is a must, so if your profile does not show that you can write detailed, worthwhile posts, you will not be accepted.
-I will not reserve spots, so you will only oficially have a spot once your character has been submitted and approved. If you are interested in a character, you are welcome to express that in the OOC and if others also submit for that spot, I will try to wait to select someone for the role until you submit your profile.
